About

Hi, my name is Eva Leitinger. I’m a certified, professional dog trainer based in Calgary, Alberta.

Eva Leitinger

After a 33-year career as a financial accounting manager with an international engineering firm, I decided to follow my passion and pursue accreditation in becoming a dog trainer.

To gain the academic knowledge and hands-on experience, I enrolled in dogma’s Calgary 2-year apprenticeship program in early 2015.

Following my graduation with a dcbc – dogma Certified Behaviour Consultant certificate, I established my training business under the name Compassionate K9 Academy with a focus on personalized, private training.

In early 2019, after completing the required 300 hours of post dogma hands-on dog training experience, I passed the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers exam and earned the CCPDT-KA® – Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Knowledge Assessed accreditation.

The Association of Professional Dog Trainers requires graduates to obtain re-certification every three years, which I completed in 2022 and 2025.

I continue to learn and increase my knowledge about canine behaviour and training methods with various in-person and online courses.

My Passion

I love helping dogs and their human caregivers to communicate with each other using force-free, humane, science-based training methods.

Merlin, Wallace, Ruby and Martha

My programs are personalized to meet the needs of the individual student and their owners.

I email post-lesson notes to my clients to help them understand and practise the skills we covered.

I provide information about:

  • Active positive socialization
  • Canine nutrition
  • Nail, coat and oral care
  • Indoor enrichment activities
  • How dogs communicate with their body language and calming signals

In addition to basic skills, I help my clients with strategies to prevent and solve inappropriate but natural dog behaviours such as:

  • Jumping
  • Mouthing
  • Excessive barking
  • Counter surfing
  • Destructive chewing
  • House soiling
Let me help you to make training your dog a pleasant experience. Let’s get started.
